Shogun Martial Arts School
Shogun Martial Arts have been providing Martial Arts training in the Seaside town of Herne Bay since 1985, we are a community-based club and registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club by HMRC as well as being one of the first clubs achieving the Safeguarding in Martial Arts code. The club’s ethos is to provide a happy and safe place for people to study martial arts.

Lee Adams 5th Dan
Lee has been involved in martial arts as a student since 1968, having finally found a local school in Thanet I started my Aikido training under Dick Todd 5th Dan. Lee has been lucky enough to train with some of the top Sensei’s in Tomiki Aikido.
In 2020, Lee became Chair of the BAA following many years are membership officer and Vice Chair. Lee has eight children and 21 Grandchildren so time in his household is at a premium. Lee’s day job is as a Laboratory Instrument Management Lead and Health and Safety professional for a large Pharma company located in the UK.
Howard Givney 4th Dan
Howard began Tomiki Aikido in 1974 at Winchester Aikido club under Bob Forrest-Webb. He’s practised with Lesley Hepden and Dr.Loi Ah Lee , Jim Elkin, Brian Eustace , Mick Tracy , Harvey Goodman and John Waite, and was the 3rd recipient of the Jim Elkin Memorial prize.
He’s supported the BAA now for 50 years (when membership was just £2.00)!
Roger Smethurst 3rd Dan
Roger has grown through Tanseikan from a beginner to a 3rd Dan. He has continually trained with Tomiki Aikido and Shodokan Aikido instructors across the UK and regularly attends UK courses and seminars. He enjoys teaching aikido to both juniors and adults. Roger specialises in kata/embu aikido techniques and is currently exploring the links between aikido and Diato-Ryu with Karate instructor Lee Adams. He also encourages avoidance techniques in younger aikidoka as a basic life skill.
Roger is a senior civil servant and lives with wife and son in Sandwich. He is currently training for his 4th Dan.
Simon Baker 1st Dan
Simon Started his Aikido Journey in 2017, he currently teaches the Dragons class 6-9 yr olds. Simon is a builder and lives with his partner Victoria. Simon is currently studying for his 2nd Dan.
