Common Questions

Aikido is a Japanese form of self-defence and martial art that uses locks, holds, throws, and the opponent’s own movements.

Competitive (or Sport) Aikido is a relatively recent innovation; Aikido Randori was established in the early 1960s just prior to Judo entering the Olympics in 1964. The first British National Championships took place in 1968 at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace.

The BAA organises national competitions for juniors, cadets and seniors in the UK. The Worldwide Sport Aikido Federation (WSAF) organises European and International competitions for juniors, youth, cadets and seniors.
